Black Friday has changed drastically since it started in the 60s. Originally, the term "Black Friday" was used by weary Philadelphia police officers to describe the shopping day after Thanksgiving, when the streets were clogged with pedestrians and vehicles. However, later on it was also called Black Friday to mark the beginning of the Christmas shopping season, when stores moved from the "red" to the "black" (from loss to profit).
Black Friday is now the most popular shopping day of the year. People look forward to Black Friday for months, painstakingly planning their shopping strategies and even camping overnight to take advantage of amazing doorbusters and huge savings on the hottest items of the year.
Because Black Friday features both in-store and online deals, you always have the option of shopping from the comfort of your own home. (Personally, we like staying home with a cup of coffee and avoiding the stress of the lines!). If you want to see what time the stores open, check Black Friday store hours here.
